This is my wallpaper page. There are different kinds of wallpapers available. I've combined similar wallpapers in albums, to make finding a suitable wallpaper easier. There are a couple of different main categories:
DdeVries.com static and animated wallpapers
Wallpapers I designed myself using photographs I made, or photographs made by close relatives. The wallpapers are static as well as animated. I've put a few of these online, also because I know some of the images are found interesting by people I know.
Now and then, nice high resolution images appear on science and technology news sites like the Dutch site Noorderlicht. Most of the time, these images have a scientific or technical character like the image of a tokamak or a star system for instance. In my effort to make science more interesting I've adjusted some of them and put them online.
Adolphe-William Bouguereau wallpapers
Our dear friend Bouguereau made some excellent paintings. A nice collection of these can be found at Biblepainting.com. I've adjusted some of them (sometimes heavily) to make them more suitable as wallpaper.
InterfaceLIFT: Nice wallpapers, also with higher resolutions.
Wallpaper.Startpagina.nl: Here you can find enough liks to other sites to keep yourself busy for a while.
Free4uwallpapers: A lot of wallpapers in a lot of categories.
Coolwallpaper.com: Quality desktop wallpapers. Including celebrities, models, animation, cars, and more.
Wallpapers @ Basehead: Desktop Wallpapers. Wallpapers that suits your desktop!
Wallpapervault.com: Your source for free wallpapers..
Desktopia Free Wallpaper offers thousands of high quality computer wallpapers from over 40 categories.
If there are any copyright problems concerning a certain image, please let me know. Then I can have a look at it.
If you want to set an image as wallpaper, you'll have to find it first of course. First, you'll have to load an album, using links in this report. This is quite straightforward, but if anything is not clear about albums you can check the Help and Feedback page. When you've loaded a particular album, you can click on the thumbnails. Subsequently, it is possible to browse through the photo's using the photo popup. Once you've found an interesting image, you can click on the "Load this wallpaper.." link. Then, the full-sized image will load in a new window or a new tab.
You can set this image as wallpaper. Doing this using Firefox, is quite simple. Just click on the image with your right mouse button. A little menu should appear. Then click on the option "Set As Desktop Background...".
Subsequently, a small window should appear. You can apply different position settings and different background colours. Concerning this position setting, I would prefer "Center" or "Tile". This is because the clumsy resizing algorithms that windows uses when you let the background stretch, can result in ugly graphical artefacts. Especially when you have the "Active desktop" enabled. But of course, the best thing is to toy with the settings and find out what suits best.

You can set this image as wallpaper. Just like in Firefox, a menu pops up when you hit the right mouse button above the image. Not surprisingly, our dear friends from Redmond found it necessary to implement an impractically large menu with less practical options. Most of the options aren't even available. After some time, you will find the "Set as Background" option. When you hit it, the background is set.
For the details like alignment, you have to right-click on your desktop and left-click on the option "Properties". A Window appears. When you hit the "Desktop" tab, you can apply different position settings and different background colours. Concerning this position setting, I would prefer "Center" or "Tile". This is because the clumsy resizing algorithms that windows uses when you let the background stretch, can result in ugly graphical artefacts. Especially when you have the "Active desktop" enabled. This whole tutorial as well as the animated wallpapers system itself, assumes you're using Microsoft's Windows XP, and have administrator rights. If something like this is possible using other operating systems as well, you can let me know of course. I tried to keep the installation of the animated wallpapers as simple as possible. In fact, everything is the same as when setting a normal wallpaper, up to the point when you click on the "Load this wallpaper.." link. Instead of loading the wallpaper in a new window, the browser asks you to download a self extracting archive.
In case of Firefox, you can choose "save to disk" and then click "ok". Usually, the file will end up on your desktop. If not, you can use the download manager to find the file. In both cases you can execute the file once it is downloaded. In case of the Internet Explorer you can save it also, but you can execute it directly as well. (Though windows probably starts to nag, because of the "almighty security settings". You can ignore this.)
Upon execution, a window will pop up, giving you some information. It is basically just a short abbreviation of this tutorial. You can click next. After that, you can choose the destination folder. This is the folder the files will be extracted to. After the extraction, the windows explorer opens this directory in a new window. Besides a subfolder containing the wallpaper files, I added the shortcut "Adjust your display settings". So you can adjust your display settings right away. (If this does not work for some reason, you can access the display settings using the windows control panel, or just right-click on your desktop.)
If the desktop tab of the "Dislplay Properties" window is selected, you can click "Customize Desktop.." at the left bottom. After that, a new window appears. (Not for nothing they've called it "Windows".)
In this "Desktop Items" window, you can select the web tab. This is the place where you can configure your DdeVries.com animated wallpapers. The fact is, these animated wallpapers I made, are nothing more than simple web pages with some content that changes it's appearance from time to time. (Just like the clock at the right-top corner of this webpage) You can easily see this by navigating to the animated wallpapers folder you made, and look in one of the wallpaper subfolders. There are some *.awp files and an *.html file. This *.html file is the one you're looking for.
If you would like to see a preview, you can open this file using the Internet Explorer. Firefox often won't work properly, because the wallpapers are optimized for IE. This is because the Windows desktop item system also works with IE. As a short reminder, I would like to ask you not to alter the wallpapers and distribute them again. Especially when you have commercial intentions. If you have a nice idea for a wallpaper, or something to say about mine, you can let me know or make new wallpapers yourself.
So this "New" button in the web tab is particularly interesting. You can use this, to add the wallpaper or any other website you like. Later on, when you positioned the desktop items the way you would like to have them, you may find the "Lock desktop items" option interesting as well.
When you've set an animated wallpaper as desktop item, at first the view is not that spectacular. The desktop item probably has some default size. If you click upon the maximize button, it will have the same appearance as an ordinary wallpaper, but changing appearance from time to time.
One last thing to note is that right clicking upon your desktop from now on, means right clicking upon this website. Thus it will not give you the usual options like: "Display Properties" and so on. Therefore, copying the "Adjust your display settings" shortcut from your animated wallpaper folder to your desktop, might be a handy thing to do.

Nederlands graag man wat een prut site
Valt well Mee
KUT
Wat een kutsmileys
Indeed, one of the enhancements already implemented in the apparently never really complete überupdate that is still ont it's way..
Look nice! And everything seems to work in Safari.
Althought it nice clear that the menu is a menu. Maybe you could add a cursor:pointer to the menu.
Ciao!
Muhahahaaaa!
No JS support:
gebruikersvriendelijker geworden.
Groeten,
Durk de Vries..
Wow durk,
youve been quite busy.
I even can see a live preview of my message now
keep up te good work!!
Nice forum is it not?
